I met Jérémie Rüest a couple of years ago in Lawrence, Kansas when he and his wife Andrea decided to move to Kansas from Paris. Andrea landed a job teaching French at Ku, and we gave Jérémie a job at The Bourgeois pig based almost on charm alone. He was an engineer in his previous life, but I had plans of making him a bartender. Little did I know that I was forming a friendship with one of the smartest, most generous people I have ever met. I feel so lucky to have been able to introduce him to our version of mid-western charm, and I’m always so inspired by the strength it must take to move to a country where your native tongue isn’t native. He always has a floor for me to sleep on and will always humor me when I show up in San Fransisco and want to hit the bar on a work night. The people in my life that open their arms and floors to me make this life possible. Traveling for me has always been about the sights and feels outside of the cities, but the smiling faces that welcome me into their homes give me the strength to continue on this road alone.
