I love this time lapse video by National Geographic photographer Anand Varma. While colony collapse may be one of the most metal band names I’ve ever heard, it’s also a potentially terrifying look into the future of our world. The scientific community has yet to find a definitive answer to why this is happening, but one theory is the use of recently introduced family of pesticides called Neonicotinoids. These pesticides have been restricted in the European Union and a few other European countries. While I don’t have any personal experience or expertise with Neonicotinoids, I did do some migrant agricultural work when I was young. I will never forget the complete lack of any insect or animal life as soon as I stepped into those rows of corn, it was chilling.
